Churches Sainte- Dévote Church It was built in the hollow of the "Vallon des Gaumates", where, during the 4th century a small boat carrying Sainte Dévote's remains ran aground at its entrance. Every year on 26th January, a boat is burnt at nightfall as part of a traditional ceremony. Saint-Charles Church This Renaissance-style building with its bell tower rising 30 meters skywards, was inaugurated in 1883. Nineteen stained glass windows lighten up its nave, where the gilded chandelier comes from the former arms room at the Princely Palace. Chapel of Mercy Located in the Old Town, this chapel where the inaugural stone was blessed in 1639 in the reign of Prince Honoré II, Prior of the Brotherhood of Black Penitents, is built with just one nave (the central part of a church building).

Fun Facts Monte Carlo Monaco gained its independence from the Republic of Genoa on 8th January 1297. Major center for tourism ever since the Monte Carlo casino opened. A majority of Monaco's citizens are Roman Catholic. Citizens of Monaco are not allowed to gamble or visit the casinos. Monaco is an independent sovereign state James Bond movies were filmed in a Monte Carlo Casino.

Monte Carlo Casino It was built in 1893 by Charles Garnier, the architect of the Paris Opera House. For more than a century, its stage has been the setting for international operatic creations, prestigious concerts, and exceptional ballets. Its series of "Gaming Rooms" are marvellously decorated with stained glass windows, sculptures, and allegorical paintings.
