Bienvenidos a Español 1 con la Sra. Lenihan Las reglas del salón de clase

El chicle  This is a NO gum zone!

 You are NOT allowed in the classroom if I am not present.  I need you to wait outside the classroom until I arrive. Entering the classroom

 I need students seated in their assigned desks when the tardy bell rings.  I will issue a tardy (on the computer) if this rule is not followed.  A tardy issued in this manner is as important and carries the same consequences as a Tardy Sweep tardy.  So, use your time wisely between classes! When the tardy bell rings

 The bell does NOT release you!  In order to be released, the classroom MUST be clean and organized.  Once the school bell rings at the end of the period, you MUST remain seated…I will release you by rows, or sections, or gender, or colors, etc. End of class bell

 The platform area is MY work area.  Students are not allowed to step up onto the platform.  Everything on my desk, computer desk, and file cabinet is off limits to ALL students.  I expect you to respect my belongings and not to touch nor borrow my tape dispenser, stapler, 3 hole punch, paper, pencil, pen, etc. Teacher Platform & Desk

 Please do not lean up against the walls nor pull on the fabric…constant maintenance is required.  The verb wall is a very expensive classroom aide and is purposefully laid out.  The opposite wall was put together with most of the decorations/illustrations above the height of the desks to avoid being tampered with. The 2 Fabric covered Walls

 Purchase a CMS Planner.  You are REQUIRED to write all daily assignments from the board into your planner.  It is important that you do NOT summarize the information. Planner

 Hall Pass Record in Planner: CMS requires that students leaving the classroom, for any reason, complete the Hallway Passport page in the CMS Planner (in its entirety).  Therefore, If I am NOT instructing the class, and you need to leave the classroom, fill out the Hallway Passport, bring it to me (with a pen) for my signature and you carry the planner with you…this is your pass.  NOTE: Students will be limited in the number of times allowed to leave the classroom! Hall Pass Record

 Para Empezar (abbreviated PE) will be presented on the screen through the classroom projector.  You will complete these assignments in your composition notebook.  Keep in mind that tests may be are generated using this information.  If you are absent, it would be wise to make-up PE work. Para Empezar

 You are REQUIRED to keep an organized binder.  This year 8 th graders will be allowed to choose the binder system which works best for each individual.  Therefore, please use an orange divider to separate all Spanish 1 information in your binder. Binder

 Please try to recycle paper whenever possible!  I have a blue plastic crate by the front whiteboard and a dark green trash bin by my computer desk, specifically for recycling!  Only recycle clean paper…do not put gum wrapped in paper, nor used tissue paper, etc., in the recycle bins.  Not only do we help the environment by recycling but CMS gets a small percentage of money for being part of the city-wide program. Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!

 You will have plenty of time to work in groups and/or with partners throughout the semester…because it gets a bit loud in the classroom, I will use a bell to signal the end of discussions!  This signal will not be used when I am instructing the class since I expect students to be respectful and focused during lectures.  Also, the bell is rung ONLY by me! Quiet Signal

 Locker Jam Pass: For locker problems, students carry ONLY this pass and NOT the CMS Planner Hallway Passport. I have 4 passes, located in the white plastic container on the wall by the light switch.  3 hole punch: I have 2, located in the student area.  Stapler: I have 2, located in the student area.  Tape dispensers: I have 2, located in the student area.  Work Returned file: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check for work that was returned during your absence. These files are also located in the student area. Para mis estudiantes

 Clocks: I have 2, both hanging on the yellow columns in the room. One is located on the wall by the U.S. flag, the 2 nd is on the opposite wall.  Trashcans: I have 2, one located next to my desk and one located by the recycle bin.  Electric pencil sharpener: I have 1, located on the small black table by the front whiteboard.  Do NOT use the electric sharpener to sharpen colored pencils. Location of other classroom objects

 Bell Schedules: I have 2 sets located below the clocks. Please do not ask me when the bell is scheduled to ring, I do not have the times memorized (nor do I intend to do so). CMS has 3 bell schedules!  Hand Sanitizer: I have 1 on top of the purple drawers next to the classroom door.  Please remember to use a small amount and not drip it all over the carpet.  Tissue Boxes: I have 2, one is located next to the hand sanitizer and the other is on the small purple table in the back corner of the classroom. Location of other classroom objects

 I offer candies as rewards for classroom games and competitions.  You may purchase 1 candy (only 1 per day) with 2 of my tickets at the END of the period...if time allows. Candies

You will be required to sign “The Behavior Book” for any of the following offenses…  Disrespect for each other, the teacher and/or substitute.  Not respecting the property of others  If I am talking to or instructing the class, and any of the following occurs: -conversing with others -laughing with others -passing notes -using sign language -napping -yelling across the room -standing up to walk to trashcan, pencil sharpener, tissue box, hand sanitizer, etc. -asking to go to the bathroom, to drink water, and/or to locker The Red Behavior Book

 Inappropriate language will also NOT be tolerated (especially insults aimed at each other)…no matter how funny you may think you are!  If I have to ask for your attention or call your name out loud for any reason, that constitutes a strike against you which will lead to your signature in the Behavior Book.  Don’t argue your case, this is NOT a democracy.  I do NOT give warnings. Since you are 8 th graders, you deserve, and will get, my respect. I, in turn, expect the utmost respect from each and every one of my students! The Red Behavior Book (continued)

 I will strictly adhere to the CMS policy for late work:  25 points for late day #1.  50 points for late day #2.  A grade of 0 will be assigned for work turned in later than day #2. Late Work

Cheating is defined (according to the District Handbook) as giving or receiving information on a test OR submitting duplicated homework for a class or class project.  A grade of “Zero” will be given for the work involved, and the grade of “Zero” shall be averaged with the other grades.  Teacher will make a parent contact to inform the parent of the incident and the grade.  A conduct slip will be written for documentation of first time cheating.  If second time cheating occurs, a conduct slip is written. The student then receives a Saturday class and a grade of zero on the assignment. Cheating

 If you are absent, upon your return, it is your responsibility to speak with me at the beginning of the class period to get missing work…there is NO “Make-up Work” folder for you to check.  A good time for this discussion would be when I am taking attendance and the rest of the class is working on warm-ups.  If you speak with me outside the classroom about upcoming absences, grades, make-up work, etc., I probably will not remember once I am back at my desk. So, please wait until the beginning of class to share important information with me. Make-up Work

 You WILL be participating in many group activities that involve sitting on the floor. So, no short shorts, no short skirts, no low-cut tops, no underwear sticking out of shorts, etc.  If dress code is not followed, you will sign the Behavior Book and you will be sent to the Assistant Principal’s office to call home. Dress Code
