Risks: Power Risk: None of the team members have any education or experience with setting up and using power systems. Mitigation Effort: Engineering professors were consulted during the design of the system. Existing designs were evaluated to determine any similar issues which this system could experience. Thermal Risk: The components in the case will generate a great deal of heat which will not be dissipated while the case is closed. Mitigation Effort: A cooling fan has been added to the case that will circulate air while the case is open. Additionally, the AC/DC adapter for powering the system will be disabled if the case is closed. Components that do not already contain thermal overload shut-down features may be placed on separate overload circuits. Financial Risk: There is no commitment of funding from the main project sponsor. Mitigation Effort: Additional sponsorships will be sought from the vendors of system components. Parts availability Risk: Hard Drives with ½ Terrabyte capacity are not due to be available until March 2008. Mitigation Effort: A suitable 320 GB hard drive has been chosen if the larger capacity remains unavailable P08371 Portable Command Post
