2. With extra time? 25% only appropriate if other difficulties identified through official procedure

3. You will use a school WP for the exams because it is your normal method of working Even if you normally use your own laptop, you will use the WP set up for you. The room and WP will be set up and you will be told which is your place.

4. Spell/grammar check This will have been disabled No auto spell check, predictive text or Speech Recognition Technology (such as Dragon), unless permission for a scribe has been granted. Standard formatting software permitted. SL-B

5. The WP is to be used as a typewriter, not a data base An unauthorised memory stick must not be used by the candidate Will not be connected to an intranet Must not have calculator, graphic packages or spread- sheets when not permitted in the exam.

6. Use of a word processor:- May not be appropriate for maths or science etc., so need to hand- write some work – number your answers clearly! Can be used for coursework and controlled assessments, (unless prohibited by specification) Others must not see your screen or be disturbed by you SL-B

7. Remember Save often, although the IT technician may set up AutoSave Candidate name, centre number, unit code to be put as Header/Footer together with page numbers. (NOT during the exam, admin time is after the exam if not already set up). You must use double spacing and at least size 12 font – get into practice now. SL-B

8. Typing and keyboard skills Unless you are taking an ICT exam, your formatting and keyboarding skills are not being assessed. You do however, need to use good presentation skills, as when writing. Keyboarding and formatting should feature as part of your revision. Keep practising!

9. If you finish early Use the time to edit You have no spell/grammar check so read what you have put, carefully. Any handwritten answers also need to be checked… For clarity (can it be read?) Are the spellings and language your best efforts? SL-B

10. Final admin: After the exam has finished, your work MUST be printed out and signed by you as your own WP scripts. Form 4 will be given to you to sign and this will be attached to the typed script.

11. Before you leave, arrange to be collected or catch the bus. You need to factor this extra time on to when you expect to leave the room as it is essential you print and sign the form. SL-B
