3. What was the 1st thing the USA had to do after Independence? What government did they choose? Democracy is a government in which people vote for leaders to represent them and to pass laws and decide policies. Monarchy is rule by King or Queen who gains power by being born into a royal family or by marrying royalty. Oligarchy is rule by a small group of people who select themselves as leaders. Plutocracy is a government controlled by a culture’s wealthiest members. Theocracy is a government controlled by a culture’s religious leader or leaders. Dictatorship is a type of government in which one individual holds power and makes all political and military decisions. Dictators often seize power with the help of armed followers. Totalitarianism / Communism is the belief that every aspect of government, work, education, the arts, science—in fact all of life and thought—must match the beliefs of those in power. Confederation is a system where the National or Central Government is given only a few powers, while most of the power is reserved for the States.

It was the whole National Gov. Confederation President The "president" under the Articles was the presiding officer of Congress. He was not the President of today. There was No system of courts. That was left to each states.
