3 Present Tense = Today

4 The present tense NEVER has a helping verb!

5 To form the present tense, use the base form of the verb.

6 Example Megan goes to the store.

7 Practice 1. I bake cookies. 2. John is talking to his sister. 3. Jacynda walks to her 4 th period class. PRESENT NOT PRESENT

8 Past Tense = Yesterday (has already happened)

9 The past tense never has a helping verb.

10 To form the past tense, add an –ed ending to the base form of the verb.

11 Example Megan went to the store.

13 Future Tense = Tomorrow (time that has yet to occur)

14 The future tense requires a helping verb.

15 Helping Verbs for Future Tense 1. shall (typically used with “I” or “we”) 2. will

16 To form the future tense, add will or shall before the base form of the verb.
