HERESY = going against the church and going against god THE INQUISITION = church machinery designed root out/uncover heresy JOHN WYCLIF 1. Leader of the Lollards in England 2. Attacked the power and authority of the Pope 3. Said bible is the only source of authority 4. Translated the bible into english/vernacular JOHN HUS 1. Bohemian reformer -> attacked clerical and papal corruption 2. Summoned to Rome for a “discussion” -> arrested and tried for heresy -> burned at the stake
