3. INNOVATIONS ACHIEVED BY NISSAN The Leafs headlights are LED, consuming only half as much energy as the typical halogen headlights. There is newly designed aerodynamic paneling under the car to reduce drag therefore reducing petrol consumption. The Leafs 90kw lithium ion battery pack supplies power to the front two wheels delivering a high speed for an E.V. Unlike its predecessors, it retains the battery capacity after 10 years, guaranteed for 100,000 miles. At Level 3 recharging ( quick charge ) the Leafs battery can be charged within 80% of its capacity within 30 minutes. Increased onboard technology such as built in GPS unlike any other electric vehicle.

4. The Leaf can interact with users mobile phones, allowing them to control such functions as air conditioner and heater whilst on charge to reduce drain on the auxiliary battery. Nissans unveiled ‘carwings’ navigation technology uses real-time traffic information and historical information on traffic patterns to compute a highly fuel efficient route. It has won the 18 th annual energy conservation prize director-generals award. It also obtained an incredible 99% on the national recyclable score.

5. IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT The average driver will would theoretically save 2.6 tones of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere per year along with a huge saving on petrol. There are estimated to be over 32 million drivers in the UK alone – if everyone were to change to the Nissan Leaf, 80 Million tones of CO2 would be saved per year from being released. Electric vehicles help sustainable development by saving the earths precious finite oil resources.

Finally I believe that the Nissan leaf will succeed in the first ever electric vehicle to be world widely used as for the first time buying an electric vehicle is not a step down in terms of quality, you are not sacrificing anything for the sake of being eco friendly your being rewarded. Nissan is also showing the user their help to the environment in practice with technology such as carwings show the user their own energy consumption and cost saving.
