2. An infection is a microorganism that invades the body. However, not all microorganisms are harmful, in fact most are not. Many microorganisms in the human body with no noticeable effect. As a matter of fact, you have many microorganisms living in your nose, mouth, intestines, and other places right now.

3. Sometimes harmful microorganisms take control over the beneficial ones. When this happens an infection may follow. In order to cause infection, these harmful microorganisms must enter the body and attach themselves to normal human cells. They then multiply, spreading the infection.

4. Some people who have suppressed immune systems, such as the elderly or those with AIDS or other immune compromising conditions, are more easily affected by infections.AIDS

5. What Is a Fungal Nail Infection? A fungal nail infection occurs when fungi infect your nails. You may first notice the infection as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your nail.

7. Approximately 50 percent of all nail disorders are fungal infections. There are many contributing causes, including physical damage to the nail, a weakened immune system due to conditions such as diabetes and cancer, and overexposure to water or detergents.

9. What Is Impetigo? Impetigo is a skin infection that is generally caused by two bacteria. Impetigo usually affects preschool and school-age children, especially during the summer. A child may be more likely to develop impetigo if his skin has already been irritated or injured by other skin problems, such as insect bites or skin allergy to soap or makeup.insect bites

11. Contagiousness Impetigo is contagious. Children can spread impetigo from one area of the body to another when they touch themselves with fingers that have been in contact with scratched, infected skin. When someone has impetigo, the infection can spread to other household members on clothing, towels, and bed linens that have touched the person's infected skin.

12. What is tinea? Tinea is a fungus that can grow on your skin, hair or nails. As it grows, it spreads out in a circle, leaving normal- looking skin in the middle. This makes it look like a ring. At the edge of the ring, the skin is lifted up by the irritation and looks red and scaly. To some people, the infection looks like a worm is under the skin.

14. What is tonsillitis? The tonsils are fleshy clusters of tissue that lie in bands on both sides of the back of the throat. Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils caused by an infection. In tonsillitis, the tonsils are enlarged, red, and often coated by a substance that is yellow, gray, or white.

16. What are warts? A wart is a tiny, hard bump on the skin, with a rough surface that may look like the surface of a cauliflower. Warts vary in color (white, pink, brown), and inside the wart are tiny spots that may look like black hairs or specks.

17. In one out of five children, warts disappear within one month without treatment. For the remaining four out of five children, warts may last for 2-3 years without treatment. With treatment, warts can be removed within a few days, but they can return if the virus is not completely removed from the skin.

19. What Is Smallpox? Smallpox is a type of infection caused by a virus known as variola. It infects only humans. The last known case of naturally occurring smallpox was in Somalia in 1977; there have been no cases since that time. For thousands of years, smallpox infections would spread through towns and cities.
