Robert E. Lee was born on January 19, 1807 in Stratford Hall, Virginia. Robert E. Lee was the commander of the Confederate army. Lee intended on collecting supplies and taking the fighting away from Virginia. Lee wanted to take away the North’s hunger for war. ROBERT E. During the Battle of Gettysburg, many houses and buildings were used for makeshift hospitals, meeting areas, and places to watch over what was happening. The Confederates are the main army that took over a vast number of the town and its buildings. Townspeople hid in cellars while the three day battle went on. George G. Meade used his Union troops to make a strong line against the Confederates in the shape of a fish hook. General Robert E. Lee ordered his troops to attack all over the line of the Union. The Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point of the war. Until this battle, the South was winning the Civil War. This battle was one of the bloodiest and deadliest battles during the war. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG

Lee decided to turn in his resignation. Jefferson Davis did not except it. The Union lost over 23,000 men. The Confederates lost over 28,000. After the Battle of Gettysburg, the Battle of Vicksburg was won on July 4, 1863. AFTER THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG
