Responsibility Expectations Besides merely focusing on content, we will be teaching students responsibility. Here are some expectations that both students and parents should be aware of are: Backpacks/folders – We DO NOT check students’ backpacks/folders for work, notes, etc. Students are responsible for turning things in to the proper places at the proper times. If your child forgets his/her things at home, please don’t bring them up for him/her. Let them learn that neglecting to be responsible garners consequences. Please check the behavior log, found in take home folders, every night. Homework – We will not be sending homework home on a weekly basis. However, we do highly encourage and recommend that your child is reading or being read to every night!!! Grades – Standards Based Grading – More information will be going home with your student at the beginning of the school year.
11
Responsibility Expectations cont. Behavior – We give students every opportunity and continual support to make good choices. Students receive verbal redirection to get them “on track.” If they choose to make a poor choice after this warning, a tally will be given. Please be aware that this is a written warning. We do not revoke tallies. If we give one, investigation or proof has led to the tally. Please sign your full name, no initials. Study opportunities – Study guides will be given for many Social Studies and Science tests (as the concepts are usually less familiar to students). Please make use of these materials as retests (if given) will not always result in a passing grade. Organization – Organization and routines can really help with presenting quality work. Students will be expected to turn work in on time and in the proper format. Reminders – Please avail yourself of Parent Portal through our grading system and of Remind 101. We will send specifics regarding how to sign up for these things when the school year begins. Both are useful tools that we utilize to give you up-to-date information.
