Phase 2 What Should We Do Together 2013-14 Development of two curricular frameworks – Public Health: Generalist and Specializations- designed for transfer to public health generalist, health education, environmental health, and heath administration bachelor’s degrees – Health Navigator – Certificates and Associate Degrees designed primarily as applied associate degrees with potential to transfer to bachelor’s degree program e.g. health education

Bachelor’s degree programs Available for Transfer Rapid growth of public health education in college and universities offering bachelor’s degrees provides opportunities for articulation General Public Health – encouraged by AAC&U’s Educated Citizen and Public Health Health Education-SOPHE Health Administration-AUPHA Environmental Health - AEHAP

Jobs in Public Health Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health estimates 250,000 jobs in governmental public health available this decade Many related jobs available in health care and corporations Many require bachelors or masters degree for specialized positions but Health Departments often hire community college graduates

Public Health is Part of Preparation for Many Career Options Nursing and allied health/health sciences Nutrition and agriculture Environmental studies Social work Construction trades Teaching and school health First responders etc. Public health should be part of general education

Health Navigator Associate Degrees and Certificate Programs Designed to help individuals navigate the complex U.S. health and health care system Applied Associate degree as free standing credential Potential for transfer to health education as endorsed by SOPHE Certificate programs for nurses, health sciences/allied health Certificate programs for those already working in the Health Navigation Professions

Health Navigation - jobs Job market growing rapidly with wide range of job titles including community health worker, patient navigator, and health insurance navigator New funding through Medicare, Medicaid, Community Health Centers, Accountable Care Organizations etc. Evidence that Health Navigation professionals improves quality and saves money among high cost patients

Phase 3 “call for planning”- 2015 League put out “call for planning” to encourage and support development of Public Health and Health Navigation programs Over 20 community colleges responded and participated in series of 6 webinars and information sharing Six award winning plans will be recognized later in the program
