50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA SYNOPSIS The "Kariba REDD+ Project" involves the preservation of forests. It is a community based programme seeks to empower local communities income generating projects low environmental hazards. Community Climate Biodiversity Standards(CCBS) credits generated finance carbon reduction projects. 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

RESULTS 51,925,950 tCO2e Estimated emission Reductions (ER) over 30 years (2011-2041) Average annual ERs 1,730,865 200 farmers benefited from conservation farming. 100 farmers benefited from beekeeping project 33 farmers benefited from community gardens Ward fire fighting teams established. RESULTS contd Evidence ‘there has been a significant reduction in deforestation in our area since the project involves several women from various areas thus reduces deforestation for garden use as we are now combined and operate in a centralised area. The community garden project has enabled us to generate income for use in our households as we are now able to buy households utensils and provide for our children...’ (Elizabeth Mundete) 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

RESULTS contd ‘this initiative has strengthened our image in society. In a male dominated society the project has helped increase our status rating as wed as we are now viewed as independent and self reliant people. The project has brought about a lot of education and in some cases through this project women have actually been elevated to households heads.
