2. * Teachers feel well prepared by their initial teacher prep programs to effectively incorporate technology into classroom instruction and to foster 21 st century skills.

3. * According to June 2010 report by Grunwald Associates LLC based on research by Eduventures, Inc., most teachers feel advanced training and certificate programs they completed after their initial teacher program was better preparation. * This is certainly my experience in nursing education as well.

4. * According to Walden University publication (2010), teachers are often taught how to operate new equipment; but not necessarily how to integrate it into the fabric of their instruction. * Let’s look at simulation technology as a teaching strategy in nursing education: * Learn how to operate the manikin * How do we incorporate best practices in education with this technology?

5. * Teachers who are newer to the profession and teachers who have greater access to technology are more likely to use technology frequently for instruction that other teachers.

6. * Research by Eduventures, Inc (2010) found no significant difference from entry-level to more experienced teachers. * May be related to earlier myth; but my experience is that the learning curve is quicker when they are used to using technology in personal lives. * Research by Eduventures, Inc (2010) found lack of access to technology was not main reason it’s not used more frequently.

7. * Research by Eduventures (2010) found that most teachers did not find technology necessary for their lessons. They felt technology was not necessary for student learning. * It is not lack of access to technology. * I find this, along with a general fear of technology in the classroom and as a non- scholarly source of information, to be barriers.
