Background of GJSCI Formed under the aegis of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in 2012, the Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India is the nodal entity for skill development of the Indian Gem & Jewellery industry. GJSCI as the Sector Skill Council (SSC) for Gems and Jewellery sector in India, covers all the areas and functions of the industry such as diamond processing, coloured gemstone processing, jewellery manufacturing, wholesale, retail and exports.

Background of GJSCI The organisations that have helped create the GJSCI are: The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) The All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) The SEEPZ Gems & Jewellery Manufacturers Association (SGJMA) The Jewellers Association Jaipur

Purpose of SSC Creating National Occupational Standards (NOS) for every job role prevailing in the Gem & Jewellery industry Developing curriculum as per Industry World Standards for imparting training Preparing a skill development plan for the Gem and Jewellery sector Determining skills/competency standards and qualifications Affiliation and accreditation process of the institutes imparting training in the Gem and Jewellery industry Assessing and certifying individuals undergoing training Planning and execution of Train the Trainer program Establishing Academies of Excellence in Gem & Jewellery sector Establishment of a well-structured sector specific Labour Market Information System (LMIS) to assist planning and delivery of training Initiating Dakshagraam PAN India to upgrade current workforce with old technology. Upgrade them to use latest technology to improve their working efficiency and reduce gold loss Helping skilled & certified Artisans gain worthwhile employment

Milestones Achieved Certified candidates under NSDC reward schemes Have started imparting training and certifying the existing industry workforce in Surat, Trissur & West Bengal. Implemented & Executed National Skill Development Agency – pilot project of Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL). MoUs signed with different State Governments to impart training to candidates in different schools, colleges & universities. Digitalize training content which would enable the employees to get trained, assessed and certified online at their convenient time. Developed world standard syllabus & contents for 117 Service and Manufacturing Job Roles under Gem & Jewellery Industry Developed Dakshagraam project for providing a better life for Kaarigar fraternity

Milestones Achieved - Job Roles (QP/NOS)
GJSCI has created Standards for 117 unique job roles in the gems & jewellery sector covering 99% of all employment in the industry. Out of these 86 job roles are industry validated and registered as National Occupation Standards Out of these 29 job roles are shortlisted for training under PMKVY 31 Job roles are under industry validation and available on website for viewing. How to Partner? Stage wise process of partnership of NGOs with SSCs – simplified Affiliation Application on letter head with Company profile to be received by GJSCI Affiliation Documents like PAN, TAN, Trust Deed, Service Tax Certificate, Professional Tax Certificate, 3 years ITR with audited Balance Sheet, Undertaking, Training Center List and Trainer Resume are collected by GJSCI Training Center lease deed on 100 Rs. Stamp paper with notarization and MoU for first level franchise centers collected by GJSCI 2 level Training Center Validation, online conducted by GJSCI team and physical verification conducted by 3rd party agency Affiliation Certificate is issued after the Governing Council approval.
