INTASC STANDARD/RATIONALE Standard #2: Learning Differences The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards. Description In this assignment we researched 2 different parks one by a private school and one by a public school. Then we came with a list of similarities and differences on the 2 parks. We also reflected on each park. Rationale: To document my understanding of Standard #2: Learning Differences, I selected to include my Playground Project because this assignment demonstrates by ability to understand the unique differences of communities and cultures. Knowing the culture of the two different playgrounds can help us become better teachers.

PUBLIC -shelter available -school buildings near playground - Handicap accessible -Buildings near by for phones, and drinking fountains Similarities -church property -church maintains playground -no restrooms out doors -Ages 2-12 Private -owned by government -restrooms outside for public use -Ages 3 Months - 12 Public

4. PRIVATE VS. PUBLIC More Space: 7 acres Ground: Mulch Away from busy streets: Park Proper spacing of equipment Open areas Equipment well maintained Everything met standards to the naked eye

5. PRIVATE VS. PUBLIC A lot of space: Grass fields for soccer or other activities! Ground: Mulch and ground up tires Ground needs to be redone(worn down) Away from busy streets: Country Road There is a plastic border around playground

6. PRIVATE VS. PUBLIC Behind / beside the building = giving boundaries Equipment needs to be replaced: Swings & Slide Before use: Children are given rules of playground! Church maintains the equipment Rules are not discussed / shown before use Everything is up to date & maintained Employees maintain the equipment

7. PRIVATE VS. PUBLIC No hazards near playground Trashcans available No safety signs around playground No boundaries to enclose playground No payphones, but buildings within 20 yards No lights for night use
