Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT How does it work?

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT Guiding principles The car is a mobile consumption location –Contains it’s own electricity meter The cars of tomorrow will be connected –The car can automatically negotiate and optimize the charging as well as clear all transactions The driver only wants the car charged –Doesn’t care how or when the car is charged as long as it’s full when the ride commence

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT Benefits The user can charge from any regular outlet –Regular outlets are cheap and in many locations already in place Make it easier for the user to pay for the electricity –One bill, no matter where you charged the car Grid and electricity providers can optimize charging –Peak shaving, preventing local overload, “soft shutdown”

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT Charging process 7. EVCS sends detailed charging schedule to the car 8. Charging Logic in car executes charging schedule Public Mobile Network Grid Energy supplier 1. Charging adapter is connecte d to dumb outlet 2. Car state changes to ready to charge 4. Charging schedule request from the car to EVCS 6. Utility validates car and provides detailed charge schedule 3. User selects charging requirements 5. EVCS submits charge schedule to Utility EVC S 9. Energy consumed goes on drivers bill

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT Components of ELVIIS Electric vehicle with in-vehicle communication system and electricity meter IT system acting as gateway and coordinator between users, cars, utility IT systems and user devices Utility IT system, validating charging schedules, peak- shaving. Smartphone app

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT Center console

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT HMI

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT Expansion possibilities

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT Smartphone app

Towards Sustainable Mobility part of Swedish ICT Key advantages No smart charging pole needed (especially at home for overnight charging) Users retain control of the charge process and can modify or over-ride it as necessary Uses existing infrastructure – the existing grid with dumb power outlets at home, and public mobile networks Utilities can coordinate EV charging across their region Extremely flexible, supports a wide range of business models
