Health & Social Care Information Centre: Who we are Formed on 1 st April 2005 as a NHS Special Health Authority On 1 st April 2013 the Health and Social Care Information Centre will be set up as a new Executive Non-Departmental Public Body as outlined in the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

Health & Social Care Information Centre: Who we are Formed on 1 st April 2005 as a NHS Special Health Authority On 1 st April 2013 the Health and Social Care Information Centre will be set up as an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body as outlined in the Health and Social Care Act 2012. This organisation will be composed of: the existing HSCIC NHS Informatics (part of CfH) SHA Informatics. A transitional board has been set up to manage the process.

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 Grants HSCIC new powers and responsibilities to collect, analyse and publish information Organisations across the health and social care sector, will be expected to make use of the information collected, analysed and published by the HSCIC. Requires those seeking data collections to first consult the HSCIC Identifies HSCIC role to undertake Data Quality Assurance Requires HSCIC to –develop a Code of Practice for Confidential Information –undertake assessment of Burden of data collections

Data Collection and Quality To have lead responsibility for data collection and assuring the data quality of those returns National Data Repository To be the national repository for data across health care, public health and adult social care Enable data linkage within a strong information governance framework Better Access To make data widely available, for use by third parties, and to meet the needs of a multiplicity of customers To be the national source of Health and Social care information for improving patient care and outcomes How: Health & Social Care Information Centre: Our vision

Population Health: Primary Care Mortality Database On-line database set up in 2003 that adds GP and GP practice codes to ONS mortality data. Managed by the HSCIC by CfH (Exeter) with ONS governance. Role based access for PCTs for their area/s For registered or resident patients by PCT Outputs -Individual level deaths data with GP and GP practice code -Patient lists by GP or GP practice in aggregated 5 year age band lists.
