3 LEADERSHIP – Parliament (Unicameral) “National Assembly” – 210 Members – 12 Members appointed by President to take care of various issues. – 2 ex-officials (Speaker and Attorney General) Legislative and Executive Branches are separate. Parliament is Supreme. President, Vice-President and Cabinet serve with support of Parliament.

4 Republic of Kenya CITIZEN PARTICIPATION – Voting Citizens over 18 years of age can vote. President elected to 5-year term. – Personal Freedoms Life, Liberty and Security Freedom of Expression Freedom of Assembly Right to Private Property Right to Due Process

5 Republic of South Africa

6 LEADERSHIP – Parliament (Bicameral) “National Council of Provinces” – 90 seats “National Assembly” – 400 seats Legislative and Executive Branches are separate.

7 Republic of South Africa CITIZEN PARTICIPATION – Voting Citizens over 18 years of age can vote. President elected to 5-year term. – Personal Freedoms Right to Life, Privacy, Property Freedom of Speech Freedom of Religion Freedom of Assembly Prohibits slavery and forced labor
