1 “Poll: Donald Trump surges to 32% support”

2 Washington D.C. - Trump has become the first Republican presidential candidate to top 30% support in the race for the Republican nomination, according to the latest CNN/ORC Poll (Wednesday), which finds the businessman pulling well away from the rest of the GOP (Grand Old Party = Republican) field. Trump gained 8 points since August to land at 32% support, and has nearly tripled his support since just after he launched his campaign in June. The new poll finds former neurosurgeon Ben Carson in second place with 19%. Together, these two non- politicians now hold the support of a majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, and separately, both are significantly ahead of all other competitors. Trump's gains come most notably among two groups that had proven challenging for him in the early stages of his campaign -- women and those with college degrees. Overall most Republican voters do (51%) believe that Trump is most likely to emerge as the GOP winner. The CNN/ORC Poll was conducted by telephone September 4-8 among a random national sample of 1,012 adults.

3 In Other News A 12-year-old girl who had an inkling she might be quite clever has taken a test and proved she was absolutely right. Lydia Sebastian achieved the top score of 162 on Mensa's Cattell III B paper, suggesting she has a higher IQ than well-known geniuses Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. The comparison doesn't sit well with the British student, who's currently in Year 8 at Colchester County high school, a selective girl's grammar school in Essex, England. "I don't think I can be compared to such great intellectuals such as Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. They've achieved so much. I don't think it's right," Lydia said. They are among some of his closest friends: Senate Democrats who have known Joe Biden for decades. But as he toys with a possible presidential run, many of those long-time allies are deeply torn about his potential challenge to Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination. They deeply sympathize with all the tragedy the vice president has suffered through his lifetime. They like him personally, they like serving with him in the Senate and working with him on legislation. And they all know how badly he wants to be president,. But they don't know if now is the time to do it -- or how he'll be able to pull it off without badly damaging his legacy. And they're torn between their loyalty to Barack Obama's vice president and their widespread backing of Clinton's bid to become the first woman president.
