2
What is a rain forest? A rainforest is around the equator that has animals. South America has the world’s largest area of rain forests. Many interesting plants and animals live in the rain forest. The rain forest surrounds the Amazon River.
3
Location of Rain Forests The location of rain forests are South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. They are all located around the equator.
4
Emergent Layer The Emergent layer is the highest place of the rainforest which is also the top. The roots of the emergent trees are 200 feet below. The animals that live in the emergent layer are the monkeys, harpy eagle, parrot, and sloth.
5
Canopy Layer The Canopy layer is the second highest layer in the rainforest. The animals that live there are the spider monkey, green iguanas, jaguars, parrot, ocelot, and frogs.
6
Understory Layer The Understory is the third layer of the rainforest. This layer is usually dim because most sunlight is blocked by the canopy’s branches and leaves. Animals that live in the canopy sometimes visit the Understory to find food or a mate.
7
Forest Floor The forest floor is the lowest floor of all. The Amazon rain forest is a dark, wet place. Small mammals such as mice and agoutis search for fallen fruit and make their homes in shelter of hollow logs and under shrubs. The rain forest’s largest animals are found on the forest floor.
8
Deforestation There are many trees in the rain forest. People are starting to cut down trees and trees have lots of oxygen. Trees can help people breathe. They are cutting them down for homes, furniture, floors, roads, and cattle grazing
9
People of the Rain Forest People in the rain forest are lucky because they always get fruit like mango, bananas, grapes and lots more. Also people in the rain forest hunt for animals.
10
Wonderful Animals The wonderful animals are the toucan, red eyed tree frog, sloth, butterflies, parrot, harpy eagle, ocelot, jaguar, macaw, boa constrictor, green iguana, tree porcupine, emerald tree boa, and lots more.
11
Dangerous Animals Some dangerous animals in the rain forest are jaguars, spider, snakes, harpy eagle, tree porcupines, spider monkey, boa constrictors, and lots more animals.
