IPD Technical Conference February 19 th 2008 Sherlock Future developments
2
Technology Technologies that affect product features Powerful and inexpensive DSPs + WinCE/Linux End of the frequency race / emergence of multi-core CPUs Wide spread of networking Remote monitoring/programming of the devices Cooperation between devices Remote event notification (errors, etc/email, sms, etc)
3
Sherlock strengths (what works) Highly visual environment (What you see is what you…) Ability to rapidly test multiple processing scenarios Rich set of processing tools Open architecture through use of plug-ins processing plug-ins acquisition plug-ins Look-and-feel Updater
4
Sherlock weaknesses (what does not) Discussion
5
Importance of feedback Annoying Sherlock quirks Useful features that you would like to see expanded Features you would like to see added Discussion
6
Evolution New version strategy: Capitalize on the existing customer experience Utilize new technology Introduce new functionality Don’t change things just for the sake of change Expand what works, lose what does not
7
Similar product review Wide range of solutions Easy, but limited Single camera No variables No custom plug-ins Hard, but flexible Slower to prototype and change Need an expert What is the right balance?
8
Goals Features to keep: Look-and-feel Most of the useful Sherlock functionality Features to add: Remote programming (running on smaller embedded box) Design for high level processing parallelism to effectively utilize multi-core CPU Build in cooperation primitives to build “clusters” of processing Tools plug-ins adding problem specific tracker/GUI/etc. Discussion….
9
Next version Look-and-feel similar to Sherlock 7 Sherlock = Image window + instruction tree + variables Remote programming More uniformity in the presentation of object settings (property grid) Addition of “tool” instruction plug-ins Similar to current algorithms, but more user friendly Tailored: Tracker/Graphics/Dialog Flexible type system (arrays-of-arrays, etc) Smaller hardware platforms support
