JESUS PROMISED US JUST WHAT WE NEED John 14:15-19 Michelangelo’s Creation of Man

God created man for fellowship with Himself Didn’t need to. Wasn’t lonely. God risked rejection.

When man choose to doubt & disobey God, He lost –ACCESS. –FULLNESS of the Holy Spirit. Biblical story is a record of God's efforts to Redeem & Restore. Both the sin and the tendency to sin have to be dealt with

Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit Near the end of His ministry. He prepared His disciples. John chapters 14, 15, 16, 17 record that discourse.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A GIFT "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you...“ v 16

In Marriage… The father gives the bride… The bride gives herself to the groom The groom gives himself to the bride

Jesus also laid down conditions "If you love me..." --v 15 "...obey what I command" – v 15

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS AN ABIDING PRESENCE "...to be with you forever..." --v 16b.

Jesus faced restrictions of time and space while in the flesh. Travel Crowds Long work days

The Holy Spirit has NO limitations No place He cannot go. No tense He is not in. Never needs to say “goodbye.” Never too busy.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH "...the Spirit of truth" --v 17

Jesus was His own Authority He didn’t quote other’s opinions. He was not just a source of information.

The Holy Spirit is like Jesus Comforter (KJV) Counselor (NIV) Friend (Message) Helper (Barklay)

THE HOLY SPIRIT CANNOT BE RECEIVED BY THE WORLD "The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him." --17b

“The world” = People committed to Temporal things Living life only in the flesh

Several types of people are “the world” The secularist – –One who leaves God out of one or more areas of life. The practical atheist – –One who pretends God does not exist. The Christian humanist – –a gracious person who does all the right things, but does not allow Jesus to be Lord of his life. The Carnal Christian – –One who professes to be a Christian but does not take time to meet with Jesus.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WITH YOU AND WILL BE IN YOU "but you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you -- v 17c

with His presence is available to influence and plead. welcome into every part of our heart & every aspect of our lives. in

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you" --v 18

Because God is One… When you get One person of the Godhead, you get all three. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus. Haven’t you always wanted to live in His presence?

And our own experience

Why put off receiving him? We flounder without the Holy Spirit. We need him. Anything less than His fullness is less than enough.
