1 Reading Task !!! Underline the conditional sentences
about possible situations Circle the sentences start with “If” but something different in the other part of the sentences.

2 Hong Kong and nature Are there really wild animals in Hong Kong? Well, certainly there are! Of course, if you always stay in Central, Causeway Bay or Mong Kok, you will not see them. However, if you go out to the New Territories or to the Outlying Island, you will be able to see wildlife such as monkeys, snakes and dolphins. If you are very, very lucky, you will even see sea turtles, deer and Chinese leopards! Have you been lucky enough to see any of these animals?

3 Unfortunately, many of the wild animals in Hong Kong are endangered, so there are very few of them left. If we don’t protect endangered animals, they disappear forever. Some animals, like Lantau Island’s pink dolphins (and yes, they really are pink!), live in a reserve but are still in danger. Fishermen shouldn’t fish in the reserve, but they often do anyway. If they don’t stop, the dolphins will die. And by the way, did you know that dolphins aren’t fish? They are mammals just like giant panda, monkeys and humans. Mammals are animals that give birth to live babies instead of laying eggs.

4 Some fish are also endangered, particularly sharks
Some fish are also endangered, particularly sharks. This is due to the popularity of shark’s fin soup. Of course, if a fisherman cuts off a shark’s fin, the shark dies. If we don’t stop eating shark’s fin soup, there will be no sharks left. There are other things we can do to protect our endangered animals, but we must hurry. If we don’t do something soon, we will only be able to see wild animals in Ocean Park or in the Zoological Gardens. If that happens, I will be very sad. Will you be sad too?

5 What can you observe? Conditional sentences describing facts
1. If we don’t protect endangered animals, they disappear forever. 2. If a fisherman cuts off a shark’s fin, the shark dies. Present Tense Present Tense Conditional sentences describing facts

6 Group work time!!! Form groups of three.
A worksheet will be given for each group. You will have 5 minutes to answer the questions by using two kinds of conditional sentences.
