Example 1
Adding & subtracting can be done both vertically and horizontally by matching up like terms.
3x3 + 2x2 – x – 7
+ x3 – 10x
4x3 – 8x2 – x + 1
Example 2
(2x2 + 3x) – (3x2 + x – 4)
= 2x2 + 3x – 3x2 – x +4
= -x2 + 2x + 4

-2x4 – 3x3 + 5x2 – 2x – 3
+ 8x4 + x3 – 10x2 + 3x + 8
6x4 – 2x3 – 5x2 + x + 5

= 6x2 + 9x – 2x2 – x + 3
