What is Teacher Leadership “Teacher leadership is the process by which teachers, individually or collectively, influence their colleagues, principals, and other members of the school community to improve teaching and learning practices with the aim of increased student learning and achievement” (York-Barr, Duke, 2004 in the 2009 Teacher Leader Model Standards)

What is a Teacher Leader? Highly effective educator trained as a leader who influences others to improve practice to improve student learning. Fosters collaborative culture. Accesses and uses research. Facilitates improvement in instruction. Promotes use of assessment data to inform decisions. Outreaches to families and community. Shapes policy and advocates for student learning and the profession.

MISSION: Increasing success for all students through teacher leadership in instruction, professional collaboration, policy, and advocacy. WE ARE COMMITTED TO: Changing the culture so that everyone understands, recognizes and promotes teachers as leaders. Promoting best practices in the development and utilization of teacher leaders. Finding the resources to provide the training and support to teacher leaders and administrators as they develop cultures of differentiated leadership. Providing opportunities for teacher leaders to become collaborative partners with multiple stakeholders in moving school communities forward. Illinois teachers connecting with other teachers and sharing their voices for support and improvement. CTQ offers the Collaboratory platform.
