Organised by the U.K. Safer Internet Centre Happens every February Celebrated around the world Encourages the safe and positive use of digital technology

You must be an E-safety Support member to use these resources in your school. © www.e-safetysupport.com 2015www.e-safetysupport.com 'Safer Internet Day' 2016 Safer Internet Day is sometimes known as ‘SID’ Tuesday 9th February 2016 This will be the 13 th Safer Internet Day Each year ‘SID’ has a theme 'Play your part for a better Internet!’

This year’s theme focuses on three areas to encourage all users to contribute in making a better Internet. These are: online safety digital responsibility positive use of digital technology.

There are many ways that you can keep yourself safe when you use technology. Here are some suggestions: always use imaginative passwords Keep personal details to yourself

Always act responsibly when you are using technology. Here are some suggestions: only post nice things that you would be happy to read yourself! when you look at something ask yourself “is this real?”

Be careful of getting involved in Internet crazes Do something for a good cause organised by a well known charity The Ice Bucket Challenge raised millions of pounds for charity

There are many ways that, with your teacher’s or parent’s help you can use technology in positive and creative ways. Here are some suggestions: use the Internet to find out facts about the world instead of just playing games, use a free- to-download program such as ‘Scratch’ to learn how to design and create them.

On ‘Safer Internet Day’ our school will be offering a number of activities that you will be able to get involved with such as: Add content here informing the students about the activities the school will be doing on 9 th February 2016.

The e-safety support website are running a competition in conjunction with SID2016.e-safety support website To get involved all you have to do is come up with a positive e- safety slogan that can be tweeted during the run-up to and during ‘Safer Internet Day’ on 9 th February 2016. More details can be found on the e-safety support website or search for the hashtag #esstips on Twitter.
