MMMR(MAD) Median and Mode + Review
2
OBJECTIVES Find the mean, median, mode, range, and MAD of a data set Review for the Mid Module 6 Assessment
3
REVIEW VOCAB Mean Range MAD

MEDIAN MIDDLE value in a set of data when they are in numerical order To find the median: 1. Arrange the data in numerical order from least to greatest 2. Cross off pairs from the ends of the list until you meet in the center 3. The middle value is the median! If there are TWO middle values, average them to find the median.
5
EXAMPLE The Jameson family drove through 7 states on their summer vacation. Gasoline prices varied from state to state. What is the median gasoline price? $1.79, $1.61, $1.96, $2.09, $1.84, $1,75, $2.11
6
EXAMPLE A marathon race was completed by 4 participants. What was the median race time? 2.7 hr, 8.3 hr, 3.5 hr, 5.1 hr
7
MODE MOST OCCURING value in a data set When arranging the data, the mode has the most repeated values.
8
EXAMPLE The number of points scored in a series of football games is listed below. Which score occurred most often? 7, 13, 18, 24, 9, 3, 18
9
EXAMPLE In a crash test, 11 cars were tested to determine what impact speed was required to obtain minimal bumper damage. Find the mode of the speeds given in miles per hour below. 24, 15, 18, 20, 18, 22, 24, 26, 18, 26, 24

LET’S REVIEW What you need, boos?

For the following, make a frequency table, find the relative frequencies, create a histogram, and find the mean, median, mode, range, and MAD of the data. A bunch of fish were caught in a lake. Don't worry, we'll throw them back in after we're done with this example. The lengths of the fish, in inches, were 6.2, 6.2, 6.55, 7, 7.4, 8.5, 8.6, 9, 9.1, 9.2, 9.25, 9.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6
