Road to Winter Unit#2 Road conditions have improved up to WU2. The road is maintained/plowed in winter, but it still can be quite rough. Trailers ARE NOT permitted in winter. 4WD is required.
2
Parking at Winter Unit 2 Parking is tight at WU2. A small trailer may be brought up at the Rangers discretion. No trailers permitted in winter. The road is steeper than at other units and there is no turn-around space in winter.
3
Center Lodge The original Center Lodge burned to the ground 1983. This building was constructed in 1984 and is the newest Center Lodge of the five Winter Units.
4
Woodstove Winter Unit 2 Center Lodge has the best woodstove!!
5
Inside the Center Lodge Inside you’ll find a refrigerator, and various tables/chairs. WU2 is “home” to our CIT’s during our Summer Resident Camping Program.
6
Kitchen area Countertops for preparing meals, snacks, storing that coffee maker, or satisfying that late-night Trailmaster popcorn fix using the microwave!
7
Tenting is not good here! While this may look tempting, it is almost always wet (note french drain), rocky, and very un-even. Tenting is definitely not recommended here.
8
Latrine The sink on the left side of the latrine is the only water source at WU2. It is seasonal – water may be obtained down at WU1 during the winter. Sink is not for washing dishes.
9
Lean-to #1 The area right in front is almost constantly wet. The Center Lodge is to the rear in this photo.

Lean-to #2
11
Lean-to #3 The road runs between Lean-to #3 and #4.
12
Lean-to #4 This lean-to is definitely closest to a road! Our Summer Camp Director and Camp Commissioner call it “home” during our Resident Summer Camp Program…and then some!
13
Central fire pit Lean-to #3 is directly to the right here. Straight ahead is the fire pit which was only reccently constructed by an enthusiastic Cub Pack and their parents and leaders!
14
Onward and upward! Leaving Winter Unit 2, the road clibs to the top of a ridge known as The Plateau. Up here are primitive Outpost Camping areas, picnic pavilions, trails, the Bear Caves, OA Ring….and finally at the state line….Winter Unit 5.
