Workshop Purpose Reaffirm safe practices for specific routine die handling operations when: Moving a pre-determined die or idle station from a die storage area to a press bolster using pre-determined rigging Moving a pre-determined die or idle station from press bolster to a die storage area using pre-determined rigging Moving a pre-determined die from a bolster or die storage area to a die cart or drop off location using pre-determined rigging Reviewing a pre-determined rigging plan to identify and select appropriate slings and other rigging equipment needed to conduct a routine die handling operation 1
3
Workshop Objectives Understand your roles and responsibilities during a routine die handling operation Implement safe practices when performing a routine die handling operation Plan the move and lift the load Position the die for installation on a bolster Attach the die to the bolster Move the die from a bolster to storage location Place the die in storage 2
4
Module One Purpose & Objectives Make sure all workers who perform routine die handling operations understand their roles and responsibilities during and after the move and can implement all safe practices required. Identify the roles and responsibilities for the tasks of die setting/rigging, signaling, crane operations, and supervisor. Understand safe practices for routine die handling and transport. 3
5
Module Two Purpose Ensure you are able to participate in a Job Planning Meeting to plan and perform a routine die handling operation successfully and safely. 4
6
Module Two Objectives Understand the tasks required prior to making a routine die operation. Participate in a Job Planning Meeting. Participate in a pre-job inspection. Perform the required inspections on the equipment to be used during the lift. 5
7
Pre-Use Inspection 6
8
Module Three Purpose Make sure all members of the die set team understand their roles and responsibilities while performing the routine task of lifting a die from the storage location to a bolster and press. 7
9
Module Three Objectives Understand the tasks required to lift a die from a storage location to a bolster. Position crane hook and slings properly above the die. Understand the balance point and the center of gravity. Properly place a sling on a die attachment device. Communicate as a team while lifting the load. 8
10
Module Four Purpose Ensure all members of the die set team understand their roles and responsibilities while positioning and installing a die on a bolster. 9
11
Module Four Objectives Inspect a bolster for debris, damage, and excessive oil. Identify and properly place die locator pins. Safely position a die over and set the die on a bolster an. Communicate as a team while placing a die on a bolster. 10
12
Module Five Purpose Ensure all members of the die set team understand their roles and responsibilities while attaching a die to a bolster for installation into a press. NOTE: NOTE: This module is site-specific and must be developed by and completed at each location based on policy and procedure. 11

Module Five Objectives You will be able to: ___________________________________________ 12
14
Module Six Purpose Ensure all members of the die set team understand their roles and responsibilities while removing a die from a bolster. 13
15
Module Six Objectives Remove any tooling and attachments that need to be taken off the die. Remove the attachments holding the die on the bolster and place them in the proper storage location. Disconnect die electrical connectors and air multi-couplers when necessary Safely lift a die off a bolster. Communicate as a team while removing a die from a bolster. 14
16
Module Seven Purpose Ensure all members of the die set team understand their roles and responsibilities while placing a die in the storage area. 15
17
Module Seven Objectives Ensure the location for die storage is clean and ready. Visually check the landing spot for debris, scrap, tools, equipment or other material. Confirm a die is in the proper position for storage. Centered in the landing spot Communicate as a team while returning a die to storage. 16
