9. Rather than entering into mental attitude sins from the weakness of the OSN, the righteous apply the strength of God’s Word.

11. The Contrast! Rather than pulling on the cords of Bible Doctrine, the wicked pulls on the strings of his OSN that deceives him and those who listen to him.

12. The righteous believer is to steer clear of the one who is led and controlled by his sin nature.

14. Prov 12:6 The wicked try to lure others into a trap with their words in order to harm or gain something from them.

16. The Contrast! The +R will not be deceived by the words of the deceiver and fall into their trap. Cf. Prov 12:12; 14:16; 22:3.

17. They will be delivered by the Doctrine in their soul that gives them discernment and understanding, Prov 22:3.

18. Prov 22:3, “The prudent sees the evil and hides himself, but the naive go on, and are punished for it.”

19. Principles: We often take the gift of speech for granted and abuse our ability that ought to be guarded and used for the glory of God.

20. The tongue can be used to damage reputations and cause trouble, when it ought to be used to praise God, pray, and witness to others about Christ.

21. James 3:5, “The tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things.” Cf. Rom 6:12-19.

22. Consider the sins of the tongue, so that you understand their evil and get encouraged to use your gift of speech more carefully for righteousness’ sake.

23. Foolish believers who operate consistently under the sins of the tongue are recognizable in several ways.

24. 1. They are gossips. Instead of speaking directly to other believers, they criticize them behind their backs.

25. 2. They spin things to their favor, where impartiality, honesty and impersonal love are not priorities.

26. 3. They tend to NOT work toward reconciliation.

27. 4. Their speech does not include gracious context. They do not receive and welcome other believers as Christ has received them, Rom 15:7.

28. Rom 15:7, “Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.”

29. 5. They typically cannot be reasoned with. They will not meet you halfway.

31. 7. They are unable to admit wrong and confess it, due to a lack of humility and graciousness.
