Project Execution: Scoping Scoping Workshop 1 – 8 th December Why is having a DC supply in a building a good/bad idea? Who else would be affected by this, and what would they think? What are the parallel technical opportunities? Mini-Project What would be done in the project Who could potentially do this work? - could be themselves. Could also suggest others with practical capability, solo organization or collaboration Outputs at https://connect.innovateuk.org/web/smart- dc/scoping-1 https://connect.innovateuk.org/web/smart- dc/scoping-1

In parallel to the scoping activities of the SIG, KTNs produced a series of reports between October 2011 and February. The main purpose was: To identify any gaps in current knowledge A specific focus on DC power systems. Reports Regulatory review Market and technological Costs benefit analysis Project Execution: Reviews

The three projects selected: DC Meter – Building a prototype fiscal DC meter and conducting a review of the current market opportunities, regulations and required specifications for fiscal DC meters. DC Protection – Review the technology issues and cross sector technology transfer opportunities related to circuit switching and protection of DC grids in domestic and small commercial buildings. DC Forming – Constructing a lab based (large bench) simulator of a typical whole house wiring/connection system for assessing and testing conversion to ELV DC LEDs, sockets and DC loads. Project Execution: Small Lab-scale Projects
