The Election 1. President: Millard Fillmore__ Number 12 VP – None 2. Political Party Whig 3. Term of Office _1850-1853 4. Who came before and after him, and what were their Political parties? Zachary Taylor – Democrat, preceded Millard Fillmore and Franklin Pierce – Democrat followed. 5. Were there any unusual circumstances surrounding his ascent to the presidency? If so, describe the situation in specific detail. He was the second President to ascend following the death of the previous president.

Largely due to his support for the Compromise of 1850, he was in disfavor in many Democrat circles. The Democrats refused to nominate Fillmore for the 1852 election.
