CNAF - 24 September 2004 EGEE SA-1 SPACI Activity Italo Epicoco
2
Porting of the grid middleware to their resource center platform, distribute and support it (IA64); provide resources in their resource centre for the EGEE infrastructure including 64 bit platform; support high performance applications in the GRID and EGEE infrastructure; provide monitoring tools to control high performance applications on the GRID. SPACI role in EGEE project

Lecce Site –4 bi-processors nodes HP XC6000 (8 WN) Itanium 2, 1,4GHz, 4GB each node –5 processors Intel Pentium (1CE + 4 WN) Pentium III, 800MHz, 256 MB each processor Naples Site –4 bi-processors nodes HP XC6000 (8 WN) Itanium 2, 1,4GHz, 4GB each node –3 Processors Intel Pentium (1 CE + 2 WN) Pentium IV, 1,4GHz, 512 MB each processor Cosenza Site –4 bi-processors nodes HP XC6000 (8 WN) Itanium 2, 1,4GHz, 4GB each node –3 Processors Intel Pentium (1 CE + 2 WN) SPACI resources on EGEE Project
4
Intel Pentium Resources –will be available by the end of September Itanium 2 Resources –By the end of October: upgrade of the XC system software to version 2.0 – porting of EGEE software will start as soon as system will be upgraded EGEE Software deployment status
5
The Linux®-based HP XC6000 Cluster is a parallel supercomputer that scales from 17 to 256 nodes. Biprocessor nodes with Intel® Itanium® 2 processors (1.4 GHz/1.5 MB). Low-latency, high-bandwidth Quadrics Elan 4 switch (first installation in the world is in SPACI). XC6000 Description
6
XC System Software is a Linux-based parallel operating system that supports the management and execution of multiple parallel and serial applications. XC6000 System Software
7
HP XC system software version 2.0. It is based on Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1/3.0 for Itanium® 2 systems Supports 64–bit addressing. Job management and scheduling on the HP XC cluster is performed by the Load Sharing Facility (LSF) from Platform Computing Corporation.
8
HP XC supports the MPI distributed memory programming model for building and running parallel applications. Applications that are MPI-based, and currently run on Linux-compatible systems, can be easily migrated to an HP XC cluster. These applications must be rebuilt to run on HP XC. XC6000 System Software
9
MPI –The HP XC software supports and includes MPI 1.2. GNU C and C++ –The GNU C and C++ compilers and libraries are supported on the HP XC cluster. Intel Fortran –The Intel Fortran compilers and libraries are supported on the HP XC cluster. MLIB –The HP XC MLIB mathematical library is supported on the HP XC cluster Supported Compilers and Libraries

Relevant effort has been made on porting the software used for the LHC Computing Grid Project (LCG) to Itanium 2 processors.LCG CERN porting activity includes middleware from EDG, a special patched version of Globus (VDT distribution) and some additional software. EDGVDT Porting of EGEE software on IA64
11
LCG components already available on Itanium 2 running RedHat Linux 2.1: –Worker Node (WN), –Resource Broker (RB), –Computing Element (CE), –User Interface (UI), –Storage Element classic (SE). Currently any LCFG components is available for Itanium 2 systems Porting of EGEE software on IA64
12
SPACI will contribute on porting starting from activity already performed by CERN Verify that the available EGEE software (itanium version) is fully compliant with the SPACI’s Itanium resources SPACI will collaborate with CERN porting group, to finalize the IA64 porting of the EGEE software SPACI contribution on porting
