Political Trends of the 1920’s Americans Struggle with Postwar Issues: MAIN IDEA : Americans desired a return to normalcy after WWI. Americans developed a fear of communism and foreigners. It led to America taking an isolationist stance in world affairs. The Harding Presidency: MAIN IDEA The Harding administration appealed to America's desire for calm and peace after the war, but resulted in scandal. The Coolidge Presidency: MAIN IDEA The Coolidge administration embraced and encouraged big business in America without any oversight.

Religious views and scientific ideas clash over the direction of America. The Twenties Woman MAIN IDEA American women pursued new lifestyle and assumed new jobs and different roles in society during the 1920s. Despite making positive gains women were still held to a higher standard. African Americans The Harlem Renaissance MAIN IDEA African-American ideas, politics, art, literature, and music flourished in Harlem and elsewhere in the United States.

Cultural Trends of the 1920s Popular Culture and Education MAIN IDEA The mass media, movies, and spectator sports played important roles in creating popular culture of the 1920’s. The 1920’s also brought a group of new and insightful writers who wrote about the reality of America and the 1920’s. The number of students in schools increased as did the opportunities for higher education.
