3 The Objectives Create an Environment that is likely to attract FDI by creating a metals cluster across three countries with a single entity Increase the competitiveness of firms operating within the cluster Improve the ability of domestic firms to market their services Develop experience and best practice Better relationships and interaction between the private and public sectors Establish a Western Balkans Metals Producers Forum

4 What has Been Done!! December 2008 – Kick Off Meeting (Belgrade) Five Chambers met to develop detailed plan for the project and finalise the objectives. January 2009 – Workshop 1 (Nis) 21 Companies signed up to the project against the objectives of marketing a comprehensive supply chain into the energy producing sector in the Western Balkans and to develop the case for Foreign Direct Investment to develop and modernise the supply chain. The five Chamber committed to producing a web site to market the cluster nationally and internationally, and research best practice in order to maximise the commercial opportunities for the cluster members. February – April 2009 Collection of data, scoping of web site, understanding of company objectives

5 May 2009 – Workshop 2 (Zenica) Chambers and Businesses met to review progress on web site, confirm that the objectives were being met and to understand how environmental legislation in the UK was influencing the energy program. June 2009 – Study Tour (Spain and England) Fact finding tour for the three Balkan Chambers (Nis, Zenica and Sisak) to understand how Oviedo and Sheffield Chambers had helped businesses in their areas develop metals clusters. Presentations by a specialist metals network and both Chambers started to shape the short medium and long term objectives of the project. July – August 2009 Finalisation of the web site, testing of ideas, understanding of opportunities

6 September 2009 – Workshop 3 (Sisak) Chambers and Businesses met for final workshop during which web site was approved and completed. Visits made to local metals companies and the metallurgy department of the university. Interviews given to local media. October 2009 – Final Report During this stage significant thought was given to ongoing work. The cluster was now well defined and has an entity through the web site giving some hope that the participants can cooperate to supply materials and engineered components into the future new power station build.
