2. Skimming  Is reading quickly to find general ideas.  Is a good technique to use when you are searching through an article for the main idea.  Uses print cues such as boldface type, italics and underline; these cues make important facts standout.

3. Scanning  Is a valuable skill when you are searching for something specific such as a key word, phrase, or numbers.  May be used with tables and charts.  A scanner in a library or in a grocery store is looking for a specific set of numbers or barcode.
