Example: 2x+5x+6=20 Since there aren’t any parentheses, you need to combine your like terms which are 2x and 5x. After combining like terms, rewrite the equation. 2x+5x=7x new equation: 7x+6=20
3
Example : 7x+6=8 In order to begin the process of isolating the variable, you need to make sure there are no other numbers with the variable. In order to do that, you need to move 6 to the other side by subtracting 6. 7x+6=20 New Equation: 7x=14 -6 -6
4
Example: 7x=14 The final step is to get rid of the 7, making the variable truly isolated. To get rid of the 7, you need to do the opposite of the current operation (multiplication). So you divide 7 from both sides. 7x=14 Answer: X=2 7 7
