2. One important component to measurements are Prove It Quizzes. You will have these scheduled quizzes after each major concept that is introduced. We will be taking these quizzes during the BRN time about once every two weeks. Each quiz will be graded out of 10 points. If you score a 8 or better you have proven to me that you understand the content and are ready to move on in the class. Measurements- Prove it Quizzes

4. If you below an 8, you will have to retake a longer and harder quiz before you are able to move on in the class. This quiz must be taken on your own time (before school (7:35-7:50) or after school (2:25- 2:40)). You only have 15 minutes to complete quiz 2. If you understand the concepts, all quizzes can be done in less than 5 minutes. If you don’t pass a second time you will be scheduled for intervention and possibly more one on one study time with me on your own time and have to complete the dreaded quiz 3. 5. -Taken during class time - Shortest, Easiest, all questions are off practice problems -Taken on your time - Twice as long as Quiz 1 - More difficult, question are off practice problems mostly -Done on your time -Parents contacted -Required study sessions before and after school. - Can be projected based. - “Busy Work” -List of components that need complete by a deadline. You have 1 week to take Quiz 2 You have 1 week to take Quiz 3

6. Measurements- Prove it Quizzes 1 st semester: There are a total of 13 quizzes. You are allowed to choose to take a zero on one quiz. But in order to pass my class you must be marked off on all the other 12 quizzes. The only grades for quizzes that will be entered in the grade book are passing grades. If you don’t pass quiz 1, a zero will be entered into the grade book until you have “mastered” the skills and received an 8. If at anytime you have not passed two quizzes, you will have an F. If you are absent for a quiz, you must make it up the day you return. But if you are absent over two days, you will have to take quiz 2.

7. The correct answer on these quizzes is worth very little. How you set up the problem is where you will earn your 10 points. Therefore you will not get any credit (0/10) if you do not show your work on calculated problems. Let me repeat this: A quiz with the correct answer but no work shown on calculations will get a score of (0/10). If you understand the concept and can just plug the number into the calculator and get the answer, you are lucky to be able to visualize the set-up in your head, but I can not grade what is in your head. Show and write out the work! Questions that are not answered in complete sentence will lose credit. (High School is an academic setting, therefore you are required to write in complete sentences with punctuation.) Measurements- Prove it Quizzes

8. Your first Prove It Quiz will be on Tuesday, 20th at the beginning of class. –It will cover Class Procedures Grading Polices Class Rules Definition of Chemistry/Earth Science Measurements- Prove it Quizzes

9. How do you prepare for these quizzes? You will be given practice problems, that will not be collected or graded. Why? - I have learned from experience that students don’t take homework seriously. Therefore, when you feel that you completely understand the concept or could complete any practice problem without a mistake, stop doing the homework, and take it easy.
