Homework Policy Homework is typically assigned every day except for Friday. Homework is due the day after it is assigned, unless otherwise specified. Late work is accepted one day after the due date, and is given a 10% late penalty. Homework should typically not exceed 10-20 minutes daily (in addition to 15 minutes of reading). If your child is struggling or taking much longer than this, please let his or her teacher know. Note: Please help your child keep his or her binder organized by removing the completed work and ensuring the homework is packed and ready for the next day.
6
Party Invitations You are welcome to send party invitations to school if you are inviting the entire class. The homeroom teacher can hand these out if requested. If you choose to invite a selected students, it is best to handle this outside of school in order to avoid hurt feelings. If this is not possible, you may give the invitations to the homeroom teacher to pass out. The envelopes must have first and last names on them. Please provide the invites in advance, as it is not always possible to pass them out on the day they are received.
7
Homework Policy Exceptions Homework for excused absences is due the day after the student returns. If the student is absent for more than one day, he or she is given a day for each day of the absence. (For example, if your child is absent for 2 days, homework is due 2 days after his or her return to school.) If the teacher has time, homework can be provided in advance, with three school days notice. If it is given in advance, the homework will be due the day the student returns to class.
8
Homework Planner Sheet The homework planner sheet is a tool that helps students track homework. It also lets you know when an assignment is due. A new homework planner sheet will be provided each Monday and should stay in the student’s binder. Please initial it each day to verify that you are aware of what is required and your child has completed it.
9
Lunch Lunches brought from home are kept in a large bin in the classroom. Please make sure liquids are completely contained or they will destroy other lunches and lunch boxes. Please do not send in red liquids, as it stains. If a sack is sent, it should be thrown away by the student after lunch. Please do not bring food for students other than your own child. If you are bringing in lunch for your child he/she cannot share food with his/her friends.
10
Loading Use the northwest doors of the gym if you have to come on campus to pick up your child. Please to NOT wait in the hall by your student’s classroom. If your child has left anything in the classroom, they must return to class with an adult. This needs to be a parent or car pool driver, because all teachers have loading assignments after school. You may park in the parking lot and escort your child to class to pick up the item. Please limit the use of cell phones during loading, as this is when most accidents happen.
11
Homework Completion/Participation: A book report and a poem are due each month unless otherwise indicated. I provide a monthly score in Language Arts and Math for homework completion so you can see if your child has completed and turned in his/her homework. If a student turns in his/her complete homework every day he/she will receive the maximum score for the week. Points are deducted for missing, incomplete, and late assignments.
12
Testing Language Arts and Math tests are given every Friday. Science and History tests are completed at the end of each unit. Tests can be retaken if the score is lower than 75%, however, the highest possible retake score is 75%. In Mrs. Hatch’s classes, 0.1% is added to the score to indicate the test is a retake.
13
Test Scores If your child scores 74% or below on any test, they may re-take it upon request. We will use the highest score, up to 75%. You may check your child’s test scores at any time through SIS 2000. A retake score will be listed as 75.1%. Any student scoring 75% or below on three or more math assessments may be moved to on-grade level math.
14
Classroom Rules I have only 5 classroom rules 1. Follow directions quickly 2. Raise your hand to speak 3. Raise your hand to leave your seat 4. Make smart choices 5. Make your dear teacher happy

Classroom Management Individual Behavior Magnetic name plates on front board Green= on task behavior. Given 1 non-verbal warning and then one verbal warning then name plate gets moved to.. Yellow= think about it. Child is moved to a different area of the classroom to think about what behavior is expected. If behavior continues a Fix it Plan is implemented---loss of recess, letter of apology, etc. If behavior still continues, the nameplate is moved to.. Red= Oh! No! When red is reached, the child will be moved to another classroom, parents called, and/or have a meeting with Mr. Z Children can return to green after being place in yellow if behavior is on task for the rest of the day and/ or apologies have been made. Motivation=Students who are on green will be allowed to add their name to a bingo board. When there is a bingo, the students in that row will be allowed to chose from the treasure box.
16
Classroom Management Classroom Behavior: Daily word on board Homeroom= Kermit Math= Square L.A.= Reading A letter will be erased from the word every time the noise level in room exceeds limit set for activity. If any letters remain at the end of the day/class period, a letter will get colored in on rewards chart. Class reward will be earned when 23 letters are colored in.
