How Cold Is Cold? I Bet It’s Colder Than You Think
2
Gas Has Mass!!!! Right now you are sitting in a room on a planet surrounded by gases. These gases have mass and exert pressure on you. We can demonstrate this very easily using Carbon Dioxide.
3
From Balanced To Unbalanced
4
CO 2 Has More Mass Than Air The mass of a unit of air is 14.7 grams while the mass of Carbon Dioxide is 44 grams for the same amount of volume. What do you think will happen when we “pour’ the CO 2 in one side of the balance?

Is This Cold?

Compared To This It Is

How About This?

Or This?
11
What Temperature Does Water Freeze At? Water freezes at 32˚F or 0˚C. Is that cold?
12
We Can Still Get Way Colder!
13
CO 2 Freezes At 75˚ Below Zero Celsius.
14
He Freezes At 269˚ Below Zero Celsius.

Sublimation Dry Ice and Sublimation: Dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide. It has lower temperatures than water ice. It helps to preserve frozen foods. Dry ice sublimates faster than regular ice melting. It skips the liquid state and goes straight to gas through a process called sublimation. Its particles speed up and get further away from each other.
