2016-2017 State Plan of Action with Local Chapters Initiatives

I. Goal: Professional Development Objective: Increase the availability of training and educational opportunities to enable members to meet the USDA Professional Standards regulation and to achieve success in their professional development goals. Strategies: 1.Professional Development/Nutrition Education committee will develop a one-page, easy to read, easy to understand flyer for each certificate level outlining the path to obtaining the certificate. 2.Continue to promote the SNS Credentialing study group program. Promote and offer the exam once a year. 3.Explore the feasibility of offering focused training to all levels of school food service professionals. 4.Use new Annual Conference format to offer varied educational and training opportunities to all School Nutrition Professionals.

I. Goal: Professional Development Initiatives: Offer a class/presentation at your association meeting that meets 1 hour of professional standards. Review the SNA Certificate Program requirements at an association meeting to promote the SNA Certificate program. Provide the local chapter & Board meeting schedule for 16-17 SY to your Region Director by Nov. 1. Local chapter members will apply for 2 awards and 1 scholarship by Feb. 1.

II. Goal: Advocacy and Public Image Objective: Increase efforts to improve the understanding and knowledge by policy makers and other stakeholders of the scope and complexity of school nutrition operations. Strategies: 1.Membership/Marketing Committee will work on developing a video that celebrates the school nutrition stories highlighting the “above and beyond” activities school food service personnel engage in to support their students and their communities. 2.PP&L Committee will work on developing a video that effectively communicates the strict regulations that guide School Nutrition Programs and how those are implemented. 3.PP&L Committee will work with the Chapter Presidents and local PP&L Chairs in their Region to set up meetings to visit a Florida and/or US Representative/Senator in their local office. PP&L committee will develop clear step by step instructions to ensure chapters have information necessary for professional interaction with elected officials.

II. Goal: Advocacy and Public Image Initiatives: Show the videos at School Board Meetings, PTA/PTO Meetings and/or Administrative level (Principal) Meetings in your school district. Visit a Florida Representative/Senator or US Representative/Senator in their local office. Send one chapter member to Florida Legislative Action Caucus that has never attended. Participate in at least one community activity/event within the district and show how you used that to promote your School Food Service program. Review the SNA Legislative Toolkit at one of your association meetings.

III. Goal: Community Objective: Increase School District Owned Membership (SDM); and assist local chapters in increasing their membership. Strategies: 1.Membership/Marketing Committee will identify school districts and begin dialogue with Food Service Directors regarding School District Owned Membership (SDM). 2.Membership/Marketing Committee will identify chapters that have strong membership recruitment and retention numbers and develop best practices information to share with all local chapters. 3.A/S Chair and E/M Chair will identify and develop ways to increase engagement and participation in the Supervisory and Employee segments.

III. Goal: Community Initiatives: Develop and implement at least one fresh idea for attracting new members to your association. Work with Region Director to provide information on School District Owned Membership to your District Director. You can utilize information from the Membership/Marketing Committee and the SNA website. Share best practices ideas for membership recruitment and retention with FSNA Membership/Marketing Committee. Send one chapter member to FSNA’s Annual Conference who has never attended. Establish a Facebook page, Twitter account or Instagram account for your local chapter and connect with other local chapters using the account.

IV. Goal: Infrastructure Objective 1: Increase recruitment and development of future leaders; and increase resources and opportunities for supporting future leaders. Strategies: 1.Past Presidents/Silver Circle Advisory Board and SIP Advisory Board will brainstorm ideas for potential partnerships with allied organizations. 2.Nominating Committee will actively recruit individuals for state board positions; and assist local chapters in developing a process for identifying and recruiting potential leaders at the local level. Initiatives: Submit list of 16-17 Local Chapter Officers to the FSNA state office by Nov. 1. Submit 1 or more Looking for Leaders forms to FSNA by Feb.1.

IV. Goal: Infrastructure Objective 2: Conduct Bylaws Review for accuracy and to reconcile contradictory sections and wording. Strategies: 1.Bylaws Committee will work with FSNA staff to research options and submit proposal to the Board for consideration. Initiatives: Hold Local Chapter Board orientation by Nov. 1. Submit updated (within the last 10 years) Chapter Bylaws to FSNA Staff office by Nov 1.
