2
Memory Verse Heb 4:16, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
3
John 14:16, The Helper – Indwelling of God the Holy Spirit
4
“I will ask the Father”, KAGO EROTAO HO PATER
5
“I will ask the Father”, KAGO EROTAO HO PATER EROTAO - Future, Active, Indicative, = “will ask”.
6
“I will ask the Father”, KAGO EROTAO HO PATER EROTAO - Future, Active, Indicative, = “will ask”. The petition will be made when Jesus Christ is seated at the Right Hand of the Father.
7
The direction of our Lord’s petition, “the Father”. All prayer requests are directed to the Father, from the mentality of the soul.
8
This is not an emotional outpouring; it’s clarity of thought from Bible Doctrine circulating in the stream of consciousness.
9
“And He will give you”. DIDOMAI - Future, Active, Indicative. Gnomic Future tense for a general timeless fact that the prayer will be answered.
10
The First Advent of Christ is followed by the First Advent of the Holy Spirit.
11
“Another Helper”. It means another of the same kind. This indicates that both Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are God, for the Spirit is God just as Christ is God.
12
The future Spirit living within the disciples will take the place of the Savior living beside the disciples.
13
“Helper” - PARAKLETOS Also used in reference to the Spirit in John 15:26; John 16:7, and of Christ in 1 John 2:1.
14
PARAKLETOS = “called to one’s aid, an intercessor, counselor, advocate, or the one standing alongside to help you.”
15
The second half of this verse tells us the purpose for Christ petitioning the Father to send the spirit, “that He may be with you forever.”
16
This is a reference to the sealing ministry of God the Holy Spirit. 2 Cor 1:22; Eph 1:13; 4:30
17
The emphasis of the ministry of the “Helper” is seen in two forms:
18
The emphasis of the ministry of the “Helper” is seen in two forms: 1) Location, being in close proximity to the believer using META SU,
19
The emphasis of the ministry of the “Helper” is seen in two forms: 2) Time, the duration of the believer’s relationship with the Spirit - EIS HO AION.
20
Literally we could say “into eternity” but we simply say, “for-ever”.
21
Translation, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give (as an advantage to) you all another Helper (of the same kind, i.e. God), in order that He may be in (indwelling) you all forever.”
22
The Doctrine of the Indwelling of God the Holy Spirit.
23
A. Definition and Description. 1. The Holy Spirit indwells the body of the Church Age believer at the moment of salvation, 1 Cor 3:16; 6:19-20.
24
2. The purpose of the indwelling is to provide a temple in the body of every Church Age believer for the indwelling of Jesus Christ as the Shekinah Glory and the indwelling of God the Father.
25
Our bodies are indwelt by all three members of the Trinity.
