ALICE Trigger Upgrade CTP and LTU Design Review ALICE CTP and LTU Upgrade Design Review CERN 27 th January 2016 Budget, time schedule, resources David Evans

Budget UK research Council (STFC) awarded about £1.3 million over 5 years (January 2015 to December 2019) for trigger upgrade. Most of this is for manpower of course. Plus travel to keep Marian Krivda at CERN and allow the rest of us regular trips to CERN The £1.3 million includes £223,400 for hardware (capital) i.e. for CTP and LTU A sizable fraction of this will be spent of technical effort from RAL for Board Layout.

UK Manpower UK manpower (1/1/15 to 31/12/19) Marian Krivda (electronics engineer) @ 50% = 2.5 FTE Anton Jusko (software engineer) @ 20% = 1 FTE Roman Lietava (physicist – trigger upgrade coordination and software @ 100% = 5 FTE David Evans (Group Leader and Project Leader) Plus students

Other Manpower Other manpower Jozef Spalek (Kosice) -> CTP octopus cable + debugging of LM0 board + design proposal for Fan-out board Jan Pospisil (Prague) -> design of Low Latency Interface (2015) Luis Alberto Perez Moreno (Autonomous University of Puebla -> implementation of GBT firmware + CTP emulator (work ongoing) (2015 + 2016)

2018-2020 Milestones DateLTU MilestoneCTP MilestoneComments Feb 2018 CTP pre-series production finished Feb 2018 CTP Production Readiness Review June 2018 Integration tests of trigger system with DAQ (in CERN lab) completed Aug 2018 CTP Production Finished March 2019 Installation and testing of trigger system in ALICE cavern completed Aug 2020Commissioning of trigger system with all ALICE detectors and systems completed

Summary Finances – should be enough for not much contingency Manpower – tight (extra effort would be useful) Schedule – on schedule but tight in 2016 and 2017. approximately six months contingency built in at the moment
