1 Secretary Interview WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU APPRECIATE IN AN EFFECTIVE PRINCIPAL?

2 Honesty and Integrity  Knowing that one’s word can be counted on and that one is “shooting straight.”

3 Consistency  Be consistent in dealing with student discipline, teacher relations and daily routines.

4 Humility  Do not be afraid to ask questions if you do know the answer to a question or about a particular policy or procedure.

5 Vision  Knowing that one has a vision for the direction of a school and how to move toward realizing that vision.

6 Knowledge of Policy  Demonstrate the desire to know about the policies of a school and how and why those policies were developed.

7 Reliability  Being a presence in the building and following through on ones commitments.

8 Organiziation  Keeping track of important dates, documents, events: keeping one’s self generally organized.

9 Foresight  Demonstrate an awareness of the ramifications of certain decisions and policy changes and how those changes might affect the school.

10 Balance  Keeping a sense of balance between getting bogged down with the details and keeping the larger issues or “the big picture” of a school in mind.

11 Commitment  Be committed to the job. It is difficult; it takes time and effort. Show your commitment to the school, staff and students

12 Credits  Interview, on February 9, 2001,with Mrs. Mary Moore and Mrs. Nancy Cain, both secretaries at Jackson Park Middle School in Wyoming
