THE CHAIN OF AID BEGINS WITH YOU Hunger Day 15th – 17th September What is Hunger Day? Hunger Day is the biggest annual fund-raising campaign arranged by the Finnish Red Cross. Funds are collected for the Disaster Relief Fund, which allows the Red Cross to operate in both Finland and abroad. The funds in the Disaster Relief Fund can be used to provide help quickly, because the donations are not bound to a specific destination.

That is when a person needs emergency aid, such as food, shelter and the possibility to go out to take care of things. THE CHAIN OF AID BEGINS WITH YOU Hunger Day 15th – 17th September Aid during disasters and crises The Red Cross helps, saves and cares for the victims of disasters. Volunteers distribute food, water and other aid supplies in Somaliland and Ethiopia, countries suffering from a drought. Aapo Huhta

Volunteers help people who had to leave their homes due to the conflict in Ukraine. Jarkko Mikkonen

THE CHAIN OF AID BEGINS WITH YOU Hunger Day 15th – 17th September Anyone can join in! Approximately 20,000 volunteers participate in Hunger Day every year. Anyone can act as a box collector. Last year, Hunger Day generated 4.2 million euros.

THE CHAIN OF AID BEGINS WITH YOU Hunger Day 15th – 17th September So why choose Hunger Day and the Red Cross? The collection funds are strictly monitored. No less than 85% of the proceeds will go towards aid work. The values of the Red Cross, i.e. humanity, neutrality and its voluntary nature, are easy for everyone to accept. 96% of Finnish people know the Red Cross, and the organisation is the most trust-worthy organisation in Finland* * TNS gallup: Trust Barometer 2016
