RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen Radiological Analyses Performed Impact of the power upgrade on: Core inventory Source terms / Activity content Radiation protection (doses & dose rates) Releases to the environment
5
RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen Main Radiological Impacts Forward pumping of the high pressure turbine system drainage (F1 & F2, F3 is already operating this way) Replacement of steam dryers & steam separators Replacement of steam reheating system in turbine system (F1 & F2) New components less maintenance & materials testing
6
RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen Measure Replacement Modification HP system Drainage: Forward Pumping Inner Isolation Valves Steam dryer Moderator Tank Lid Steam Separators HPRV High Pressure Turbine Moist Separator / Reheater Improved Scram system Feed Water Pumps: New Impellers Forsmark 1 RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen

ALARA Goal - Radiation Doses General –Total collective dose < 2,5 manSv (0,8 manSv / GWe) –At latest year 2011 < 2,0 manSv (ca 0,6 manSv / GWe) –Individual doses Planning < 10 mSv Reality Max 2 % > 10 mSv No one > 20 mSv Priority –FMEP = Foreign Materials Exclusion Program –Prevent fuel failures Year 2010 < 1 fuel failure / 10 year & unit –Replacement of Moisture Separators / Reheaters (F1 & F2)
8
RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen Effluents to the Environment - Total
9
RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen Effluents to the Environment - Water
10
RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen Release of C-14 & H-3 after upgrade
11
RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen Measures to lower the effluents Water Lower the water consumption F1 & F2 –Reuse of pool water –Storage tanks for intermediate storage Improved waste water evaporation system at F1 Air Avoid fuel failures!
12
RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen ALARA Goal - Effluents General –Individual dose < 0,0005 mSv (inkl C-14) –Individual dose from water releases In the long term (year 2015) in the order of magnitude 0,0000001 mSv (0,0001 Sv) Priority –Prevention of fuel failures –Lowered water releases from F1/F2 Improved evapuration capacity Lowered water consumtion
13
RPM Meeting 2006-03-14, Essen Impact on Waste Increase of high level activity waste (fuel & control rods) by 2-3 ton/year Activity contents in ion exchange resins may be increased by 50% (due to forward pumping) Increased neutron induced activity in internal reactor components by 11% (F1/F2) respectively 14% (F3)
