1 The Child Development Assessment Profile (CDAP) Important changes to how your child is being assessed from Sept 2011 It is now statutory Information can be found in the Foundation Phase Statutory Assessment & Reporting Arrangements, (SARA) Statutory requirements for teacher assessment that has been introduced for the Foundation Phase from the start of the 2011/12 school year

2 The Child Development Assessment Profile (CDAP) We assess to: Get to know the individual child and highlight his/her strengths, interests and developmental needs Inform children of their achievements and next steps for their learning and development Inform colleagues, parents/carers of children’s achievements and next steps for their learning and development Inform transition throughout the Foundation Phase and between the Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2.

3 The Child Development Assessment Profile (CDAP) A very important point for you as parents/carers to understand is that we can only assess & report on what we see & hear when the children are in school. They may do & say far more at home but for various reasons this does not always carry over into their school life.

4 The Child Development Assessment Profile (CDAP) Children between the ages of 3-5 will be assessed if they have not previously attended school. Assessments will be made using the 6 developmental areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Speaking and Listening Reading and Writing Sort, Order and Number Approach to Learning, Thinking and Reasoning Physical.

5 The Child Development Assessment Profile (CDAP ) It is a developmental assessment as opposed to a learning assessment which is assessed using the existing 7 Foundation Phase areas of learning and the 6 Foundation Phase Outcomes. 6 The Child Development Assessment Profile (CDAP) the following arrangements will apply: In the 2011/12 school year, children who have not previously been assessed (nursery & reception children) will be assessed within 6 weeks of Sept 2011 Pre-nursery will be assessed within 6 weeks of entering the school From Sept 2012 only pre-nursery children will need to be assessed on entry (children up to the age of 5 will only undertake an on entry assessment if they have not previously attended school or other provision) In every case the result of the assessment will be reported to parents/carers within the term that the assessment takes place
