9 Turning your Conference Connections into a Network Be genuine! 6 degrees of separation Say what you’ll do – do what you say! We all want to be polite & welcoming, BUT… 2-way street

10 Social Media & Networking More than just a Follow or a Like o Read online content o Skype conversations o Conference meet-ups Write down details in-person/follow-up through social media CardMunch app – turns business cards into contacts Again – it’s a 2-way street

11 Developing a Network Speed-Networking time! 2 minutes Framework for Speed-Networking o Name o Institution o Functional area responsibilities (inside & outside of OTR) o Are you looking for a Network? o If so, what type of Network are you looking for? o If you’re looking for the same thing – are you ready to start the process of developing your Network? If so, feel free to exchange information! o If not, no big deal – thank the other person & move on to your next person!

12 Your Charge in Networking! Look at your current Network o Who’s in your circle of people? Those from your Region? Those from a NODA Network? Those from a past leadership role? Those from a Grad Student Symposium/OPI/MMI class? o Are you wanting to expand your circle of people within your Network? If so, how are you going to do so? What actions will you take in Las Vegas to expand your Network? Don’t make your circle an exclusive clique o Who is your “go-to” NODA colleague? When was the last time you thanked this person? Recognize & appreciate your Network members
