Definitions: formal education(AES) FE is education provided in the system of schools, colleges, universities and other FE institutions that normally constitutes a continuous “ladder” generally 5/7 – 20/25. Some countries: part-time empl+part-time school Certification – next educational level

Definitions: adult learner People who have once left full-time formal education – e.g. to enter the labor market – and who, at some point, decide to participate in formal learning again. Time distance between leaving and re- entering: at least 3 years

Sample At least 1000 completed questionnaires Stratified sample by level of education 1) primary, lower secondary/basic (ISCED1+2) 2) upper sec. (general & vocational) (ISCED3) 3) post sec. (non-tertiary) (ISCED4) 4) university (bach, master) (ISCED5) Each group: 250 (minimum 100; 3x333)
